the women

my photography class this semester required that we create a book with some sort of visual narrative.  this is mine.  the original idea had to do with the regression of women after world war two back into their traditional roles after a stint as the backbone of society.  i wanted to show that by starting with glamour and moving through housewives, normal good girls, women who break a few rules down to pure rebelliousness.  i hope it reads that way.

early work

lately, i've finally started thinking of myself as an artist, and i LOVE the feeling.  i've always done art in school and i've always been pretty good at it, but somehow i've never considered myself to be an "artist."  i never really thought i was creative, just technically skilled, but now i'm being pushed harder by my professors and i'm finally thinking about my art beyond just making it.

photography is my main focus and this is some of my work from last semester.  the first and last made it into my school's first ever all student curated gallery.  the first floor of the arts building always has student work being shown and it's normally chosen by the professors, but now that we've got a new building with new spaces they decided to hand over the hallway gallery to the students.  it was really exciting to have my photos shown publicly.

these are all shot on 35mm black and white film, developed and printed by me.  i'm not a big fan of the digital revolution, but that is a rant for another day.
